God's been speaking to me these past few months: "I want you to start laughing, because Jesus is laughing over you". Note He didn't say Jesus was laughing at me (happy about that) but over me.
Having lost my Dad earlier this year and having experienced a couple of other major losses, it has been an interesting year. However God is always endeavouring to have us look at things from His perspective. As the year draws to a close I don't know exactly what 2014 holds...but I know IT'S GOOD! The day God told me to start laughing I didn't feel much like it - but as I thought of Jesus laughing over me I couldn't help but smile :) You see He knows what's ahead. After years of trial Joseph was able to say "What you meant for harm God meant for good" (sorry, it's too late at night for me to go hunting bible verses).
In your circumstance God can see the way ahead, He can see around that next corner - and guess what, He's laughing! He's laughing with joy because He knows what He has in store for you, He knows the plan, the circumstance, the divine encounter that is about to turn that season of trial into a season of extreme joy!
In my CD's I talk a little about joy, but laughter itself doesn't really get a mention - although it was certainly a 'tool' I used, I just forgot to mention it! When I began believing God for healing one of the very first things I did was trot off to my local Christian book store and buy 3 videos (yes we're talking pre DVD era here). Those videos were "Matthew" and 2 Ken Davis videos - because not only did I want to watch Jesus heal, but I wanted to laugh! We all know the verse in proverbs "a merry heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones". Well I watched those videos over and over again, and I laughed and laughed and laughed. Nowadays if I'm after a chuckle I have the old 1960's Get Smart series - yes each to their own, but it makes me laugh and that's all I'm looking for. But more than that, as I watched "Matthew" I saw the joy of Jesus as He healed people. The actor who plays Jesus in that film actually talks of coming to the realisation that Jesus was a man of joy, and that seeing people healed brought Him great joy.
So today I'd like to encourage you to look for sources of laughter - whatever takes your fancy. Actively seek out something that makes you laugh. And take a moment to imagine Jesus laughing over your life. He knows the way ahead, the good things He has in store for you. You may not be able to see them now, but He can...and He's laughing with joy! :) He is the one who DELIGHTS in exercising steadfast love, justice and righteousness over your life! (Jeremiah 9:24). He doesn't just think it's an okay thing...He DELIGHTS in it! Embrace His delight today...and anticipate that season of joy.
