“…give attention to my words, incline your ear to my sayings.
Do not let them depart from your eyes, keep them in the midst of your heart
For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their body
Watch over your heart with all diligence for from it flow the springs of life
This scripture reveals the importance of what is in our heart. Is it full of fear, despair, doubt, unbelief? Or is it full of faith, the certainty of God’s love, joy and hope? This is important because what is in your heart flows out to become the springs of your life. In other words your life is literally being fed by what is in the heart.
So how can we change what is in our hearts?
In Matthew 12:34 Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”
So if we want to change what is in our heart, then we need to FIRST change what is coming out of our mouth.
I have heard a lot of negative comments made about the “word of faith”, and some people have the idea that in speaking God’s word out of your mouth you are somehow trying to “name and claim” a promise.
This is not so. Speaking the word of God out of your mouth actually has the purpose of changing what is in YOUR heart. Speaking the truth of God’s word out of your mouth is literally weeding your own heart of doubt, unbelief, fear and despair, and replacing it with faith, hope, love, the truth of God's word, the truth of His character. When your heart and mind have been renewed according to the word of God, THEN you come into a place of revelation as to what God has ALREADY given you, your spiritual eyes are opened to see what He has already given to you – in Christ – and out of this place of revelation you are able to receive that inheritance, all that God has given to you in Jesus’ death and resurrection.
